In this interview our Commercial Director, Louise Mockler, shared what #BalanceForBetter means to her as well as some great tips for women who are looking to have a successful career.

  • What does your current role entail?

I’m a Client and Commercial Director here at CPM Ireland, so my role is to deliver outstanding results for our client’s and to grow our business.

  • What does “balance for better” mean for you?

This year’s IWD theme is an important reminder that we need to actively create environments that support true gender balance. Everyone has a role to play in forging a more gender-balanced world and it’s in all our best interest to fight for policies and elevate role models that challenge gender bias. ‘Balance for better’ is a call to action and a reminder that supporting women by offering a balanced platform on which to operate will enable you, your team and your organisation to deliver better results.

  • As a Commercial Director, how has inclusive teams had an impact on success?

I truly believe diversity drives innovation and in our ever changing environment we are constantly looking for innovative solutions for our clients. It’s vital that we encourage inclusion, especially at management level as this is often where the gender balance challenge is amplified. Inclusive teams also tend to have a stronger positive culture, which makes them more resilient when facing a challenge!

  • What advice would you give to young women who are trying to build a career in the industry?

Embrace new challenges and opportunities that will allow you to develop your skills and showcase your talents to others. I love the Richard Branson quote “If somebody offers you an amazing opportunity but you are not sure you can do it, say yes – then learn how to do it later!" I know that having that level of bravery doesn’t always come naturally and can feel uncomfortable - but sometimes you have to feel the fear and do it anyway!

  • How do you manage to have a work-life balance?

Like many people, I'm not a big fan of the term work-life balance because it pits work against life. It implies that the two are separate when in reality you don’t stop living when you’re in work. However the concept of being satisfied with how your life is balanced is really important and sometimes striving for success in work and high expectations outside work can lead to just feeling exhausted! I have 2 young kids (1 and 4) and for me a true partnership at home has been the key.

  • Tips on how to balance for better

Balance for better is about gender equality so it’s important to challenge stereotypes we have for both genders. We need to create an environment that supports women in leadership but that also supports men as primary care givers – balance in work and balance at home.
